Cosmetic Mole Excisions
Dr. Albrecht offers cosmetic removal of benign skin growths for men and women who are concerned about esthetics or medical safety. The types of growths include moles, cysts, milia and skin tags. The procedure is relatively quick and does not require a lot of down time. The incision is closed with stitches and dressed. Local anesthetic lasts a few hours after surgery and the discomfort is usually minimal and managed with over the counter medications.
As our skin ages and is exposed to sunlight, the skin changes in response to this exposure. Most people have benign skin marks such as freckles and moles which may change over time.
Many people seek excision of moles for cosmetic reasons. However some moles may develop into skin cancer and removal is often indicated as a safeguard against skin cancer.
The following characteristics should be considered when deciding if your mole should be of concern:
- Shape – when half of the mole does not match the other
- Diameter- the mole is larger than a pencil eraser
- Border- the borders or edges look ragged or irregular
- Color- the color of the mole varies throughout
You should seek medical attention if a mole bleeds or feels painful or tender.
